  • Easily the best Test Prep software out there! A++++

    By Sammieboy020
I used many different study methods to pass my FAA Private test and nothing prepared me better than this software. I only had a month before my written and my instructor reccomended the software and I thought it was going to just be another money pit. I finally decided to purchased the software without taking any form of ground school and this is honestly all you need. They explain the answers better and more indepth than most ground school instructors do. Passed the Exam with a 94% using nothing but this software to study!
  • Easy-to-learn

I’m not a native speaker, but it was easy to learn because there was many learning modules!

  • Question bank was fine, the rest needs improvement

Purchased this back in Summer of 2015 in preparation for PPL written. My CFI recommended them since he’d heard good things about their PC product. At the time I found that their Mac UI was bright and colorful though not particularly intuitive and seemed to be “lacking”. I got the impression that their bread and butter was the PC version and that they were throwing a bone to the Mac folks but weren’t too concerned about functionality or experience and quality control was an afterthought. (Side note, also got the impression that English was a second language based on sentence and grammar structure on website and emails).Granted, I haven’t checked the latest version of the software (9.2.4) since I passed my written and moved on, but as I was weighing my options with instrument and commercial test apps, I thought about my experiences with Dauntless-soft. I inquired about bundling since their PC version offers packages of assorted test banks at a discounted price but the Mac version is a la cart since the app store doesn’t permit “bumdles” [sic] according to the response I received.Disclaimer - The validity of their question testbank was never in doubt, the method of learning them is what gives me pause in recommending this to anyone else. Here’s the review of my experience: At the time, there was no manual or insufficient help menus, icons had no mouse-over labels and aside from trial and error, there wasn’t a way to know what they were used for [response: Honestly, we get tens of thousands of users every year. Nobody has asked us for a 'manual' before as most users find the app entirely intuitive]. Figures would open extremely zoomed in, though not to the area of interest (sometimes not even pertaining to the question asked) and the selection of tools included a line tool but didn’t include a ruler or any way of determining scale, direction, or angle. There was also a reference to question stacks but no way of determining how to utilize that function. There were other issues that I brought to the attention of the developer via the helpdesk and received a rather snarky and unhelpful email back from a guy signed “Steve CFI FAAtest.com” that told me 'Even our closest legitimate competitor, ASA, has very very poor, un-illustrated explanations only while our private product alone has over 700 illustrations in the explantions.” He seemed to think he had the best thing out there (maybe he does, but their customer service needs revisiting). Again, I passed my test but was hoping for a better experience. After he mocked my help desk submission (which the tone suggested that I was just whining (after spending $50)) he asked that I not 'overdramatize [my] apparent real frustrations with a relatively minor part of our app”. He must have routed my complaints up because within a few days an update was pushed correcting the scaled ruler and protractor issue. The rest went unaddressed. In summary, their question bank was respectable (and honestly, that’s what I was going for). The program (and more importantly the customer service aspect) requires significant attention. My suggestion is that they develop a single UI program that permits purchasable, downloadable content. I can’t say I blame them for wanting to sell multiple programs at $50 a piece, but when I see that three databases can be purchased for PC for $104 through your site, why would I spend $150 on the Mac side?
  • Very comprehensive and accurate

    By Mallorcan2016
I tried this software out for the PPL and will continue to use Dauntless software for my forecoming FAA tests. It has proven to be extremely comprehensive and accurate- I did not encounter a single question that wasn’t in the software. Apart from the fact I scored 97% I can say it helped me to fully grasp what the FAA is after in every question, which is answered and explained in depth. Anything you have read about the syllabus and the quality of the answers is absolutely true.Keep the good work up guys!
  • The perfect tool for study!!!

    By AIDV
My instructor recommend this app for the PAR knowladge test and he was right! You learn fast, it has very clear explanations and covers the intire FAA PAR program. It is an intuitive software, and now with the last update it looks cooler. The custumer support team is great and they are always trying to help you in any ways possible. If you want to study and learn, this is the app.
  • Very useful study tool

    By DC Qranky
I searched and reviewed several sources for home ground school study before settling on this program and I’m very satisfied. The structure of the program includes actual test questions that can be presented in a variety of ways. There are detailed explanations for every question which helps understand the questions rather than just relying on memorization. There are clear and descriptive graphics relevant to questions requiring visual aid. My one request is some sort of glossary or description of aviation terms that are new for people unfamiliar with these references (like me). I mentioned this to Customer Support and they immediately replied and thanked me for the suggestion. I checked with them a while later to find that they’re actually working on implementing a feature like this. A company that listens to its customers! That alone is worth the rating. Affordable, effective, responsive customer support. Thumbs up from me.
  • Extactly What I Need amazing Ground School Program

    By txbeerknurd
Finally a self paced Ground School that's put together exactly that way I wanted! I have evaluated (and purchased) other one’s but they were clumsy, difficult to navigate and the reference materials were in separate sections. Here it is laid out all together and I learned more here than on all the others combined in the first 2 hours! The learning style is perfect with all the different ways to deliver content. When having to look at charts, graphs or do calculations, all the tools built into the app make it easy and useful. There is even a built in E6B to use!If you are working on your Private Pilot or just want to stay sharp. This is the app for you! Plus the price is amazing too!
  • Great App!

    By Casey Kidd
This is a great app that I expect will prepare me well for the FAA written. Everything seems very clear and concise. I really enjoy the feature that allows me to print questions I missed, so that I may take them with me and study on the go. A major plus. Overall, it’s a must-have for anyone studying for their private written.
  • Worked for me

    By Gitmo234
The only things missing are the ability to track scores/progress/etc and getting a testing endorsement. I already had my testing endorsement but hadnt touched any academic material for awhile. I already had Sportys software so I took a practice test on that and scored a 60%. I bought this software 3 days ago with the intent fo taking the test today and I did. I got an 85% (passed). It’s otherwise easy to use. The measurement tool seem to be intermittent and not always work right or the best, but I had a plotter and a book I bought off amazon with the figures I could use in the tests involving distances and plotting. What I really wanted was the ability to track areas (over several uses) that I was weak on, what I was scoring on the full practice exams over time, etc. It would have been nice to be able to track that on Friday I was hitting 62% of questions right and on Sunday prior to the test I got an 88% and everything in between but it loses that when you close it.You can’t beat the ease of use and explanation though. If you’re having trouble with a concept, the manner that this software uses to detect and teach is great.
