Learn how to unreconcile and remove an individual transaction from a completed reconciliation. If you added a transaction to a reconciliation by mistake, don't worry. How to install fonts on mac. You're in the right place to fix it. Follow these steps to remove individual transactions you added to a transaction on accident. Reconciling the transaction using the standard QuickBooks reconciliation process. Both cleared and reconciled statuses mean that the transaction has hit the bank account, but I think of cleared as a 'quasi-reconciled' status. It is worth mentioning that you do not have to mark a transaction cleared in order to reconcile it - it is an optional.

After one step update using TOOLS/RECONCILE message - no uncleared items to reconcile - when clearly there are! I can manually mark each item as reconciled - but not the point and VERY time consuming

  • Hello Rosmeary,
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Community to post your issue, although I'm sorry you haven't received a response.
I would take a look at the steps outlined in this FAQ: TransactionsMissing When Reconciling Your Account.
In regards to your transactions not being downloaded, what is the name of the bank? Have you seen any error messages? Are the transaction's current but some are missing?

The more information you can provide regarding this issue will help the Community to better understand and assist.

    Thank you,

    -Quicken Tyka

Often when reconciling an account there are items from the last date of the statement period that are in fact not part of the reconciliation.. one unchecks them and the reconciliation works fine, but the side effect of this is that in the account register the unchecked item's status is changed from cleared to uncleared.. just because they were not part of the statement reconciliation the transactions' status from the bank should not change..

Don't worry about the Cleared / Uncleared status of a transaction. 'Cleared' is just a flag that says 'this transaction has been processed (aka cleared) by the bank'.

Next manual reconciliation this transaction will show up again. You may have to manually check it to include it in the process.

I'm a little puzzled about your statement that a transaction that already has the 'cleared' status is not part of the reconciliation date period.
The only way that I can think of this event occurring is because you created a new transaction using a Memorized Payee List entry that erroneously 'marks a transaction as cleared'. If that's the case, edit the MPL entry and uncheck 'mark as cleared'.

I automatically download transactions from my brokerage.. a purchase or sale on the last day of the statement period has not officially cleared and is not part of the statement..
And the fact that a transaction has been processed by the bank should not be reset by the reconciliation process just because it is unchecked for purposes of reconciliation!

I am using Quicken Mac Deluxe 2019. I usually reconcile my checking account and credit card accounts some days after the close of the statement period. In between the closing date and the date on which I reconcile, some transactions clear the bank, are downloaded to Quicken and are marked as cleared. When I reconcile, I have to un-clear these transactions to get the reconciliation to balance. It would be very helpful if Quicken would un-clear these transactions only for the purpose of reconciliation; otherwise I have to write down or remember these transactions and re-clear them in the register after the account has been reconciled.
I had the same problem with Quickbooks Online when I was a church treasurer.
  • I use Quicken about every 4 months for the past 8 years or so. This is the first time the 'Reconcile' function has behaved this way and it is confusing. CLEARED should mean the check has cleared the bank, period! You should never just clear this flag for no reason. More importantly, to make this change and not tell anyone about it. Scary!!
